Music-loving fans have fallen in love with young Ghanaian singer Gyakie especially for her powerful voice and the memories her songs bring those who listen.

Born into a family of musicians and music-makers, Gyakie has held onto the baton and has become the trailblazer of contemporary African music in Ghana, building on the enduring legacy of his father Ernest “Owoahene” Nana Acheampong.

With the release of her maiden EP “Seed, coupled with her hit song “Forever” which has transcended the shores of Ghana, it is fair to say Gyakie is beginning to step into the big shoes of her father.

1, Who Is Gyakie?

Born Jacqueline Achempong on December 16, 1998, Gyakie is a 22-year-old Ghanaian singer and songwriter. Her father is the legendary Ghanaian highlife crooner Nana Acheampong.

Gyakie, born and bred in the Ashanti Region of Ghana at a place called Bompso near Kumasi although she originally hails from Abuakwa also in the same region.

Gyakie exhibited her love for music at a very young age and even at 8 she followed her father Nana Acheampong who belonged to the music band, Lumba Brothers at the time to the recording studios and travelled with him to numerous shows.

With her exceptional voice and beauty, Gyakie was a member of her church’s choir and served as the lead vocalist. Although Gyakie had a love for music, she did not see it becoming something she will do for a living. She started making music while in college.

3, What Is The Education Background Of Gyakie

Gyakie had her primary and basic education in Kumasi. She proceeded to the revered T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (T.I Amass) where she studied Business ad passed her WASSCE with distinction.

Gyakie is currently a student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where she is studying for a Bachelors Degree in International Business.

4, Music Career Of Gyakie So Far

Gyakie entered mainstream Ghanaian music in 2019 with her single “Love Is Pretty” which did not do as great as she wanted although it received some airplay for weeks. Fast forward, in August 2020, Gyakie released her maiden EP “Seed”.

The “Seed” EP had only five songs. According to her, she was using the EP to test her musical prowess and to get accustomed to different sounds and melodies. That was when Ghanaians started to pay some level of attention to Gyakie and some realizing that she was destined for greatness.

With the power of social media, Gyakie has pushed her music to several audiences and to grow her fanbase. Working with the likes of E.L, Kuvie et al Gyakie in 2020 recruited Bisa Kdei on her single “Sor Mi Mu” which has become a hit since then.

This was followed by songs like “Never Like This” and “Forever” which charted not only in Ghana but also in Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and other countries across the continent and the globe. The “Forever” single has also made it on to Shazam’s Top 200 chart and Billboard’s Top Thriller Global chart.

Gyakie has performed at the Rapperholic, Tidal Rave etc. She has also been featured on Red Bull South Africa, Nigeria’s One Tribe Magazine and has been a guest on BBC’s Focus On Africa. Gyakie is currently signed onto Flip The Music Entertainment record label. Sony Music has currently signed her.
